David Retter

For over four decades, I’ve had the privilege of working in real estate—a journey that has taught me true leadership is about serving others with integrity, not chasing titles. Any success I’ve experienced can be traced back to the incredible people who stand beside me. At Retter & Company Sotheby’s International Realty, I’m fortunate to lead a team that puts clients first, adapts to market shifts, and consistently aims to exceed expectations.

My path to real estate began in 1979. In 1992, I co-founded Windermere Real Estate Tri-Cities with Harold Thompson. In 2016, we transitioned to Retter & Company Sotheby’s International Realty, blending local expertise with a global network. This evolution was never about me alone—it was about empowering our team to better serve every buyer and seller, whether they’re around the corner or around the world.

I’ve drawn inspiration from mentors like John Maxwell and Ken Hohenberg, who reinforced my belief that leading by example means lifting those around you. At Retter & Company, my foremost goal is to create an environment where our agents feel supported, clients feel truly heard, and our community thrives. When recognition comes—such as being named one of the 25 Tri-City People of Influence by the Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business in February 2025, Tri-Citian of the Year in 2019, or Kennewick Man of the Year in 2016 — I see it as a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire organization.

Outside the office, I’m passionate about giving back to the Tri-Cities community, supporting organizations like Friends of Disabled Veterans, Wishing Star Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs, and The Children’s Developmental Center. I also helped establish the Kennewick Police Community Cares Fund, ensuring assistance reaches those who need it most. And when it’s time to relax, you’ll find me steelhead fishing on the Snake River, unwinding at Priest Lake, or teeing up on the golf course.
